The Netherlands won the second European
Girls Teams Championship, with Sweden taking the silver medal and
defending champions, Austria the bronze. This was a tremendous
performance from the Dutch team, in particular because they had to
pick themselves up after their 4-25 defeat to Austria in Round 1 of
the tournament. Congratulations to Rosalien Barendregt, Astrid
Dekker, Marion Michielsen, Claudia van der Salm, Marleen van Gelder,
Meike Wortel, npc Monique van de Sande, and coach Martine
Verbeek.
Meanwhile, Italy lead the Juniors, despite a loss
to Norway on vugraph – that result was sandwiched between two
maximum 25s for the host nation, who are on 185.5 VPs. England are
second on 181, followed by France 171, Norway 168, Poland 164,
Sweden and Netherlands 161, after which there is a gap of 15.5 VPs
to eighth-placed Hungary. Sweden had a great day, scoring 71 out of
75 VPs, while Norway’s three wins earned 60 VPs and included matches
against Italy and France. Turkey were the best of the rest, with
three wins including against Netherlands and
Poland. |
