A splendid ceremony hosted by the inimitable Anna Maria Torlontano marked the official opening of the 45th Generali European Bridge Championships.
A parade of the flags of the competing countries by the pupils of Los Christianos, which was warmly received by the audience was followed by speeches of welcome on behalf of the Bridge Federations of the Canaries and Spain and the Mayor of Arona.
After welcoming players and officials the President of the European Bridge League, Gianarrigo Rona declared the Championships open to tumultuous applause.
