The awesome
US/German/Italian squad led by George Jacobs
powered their way into the knock out stages of the Mixed Teams
Championship, winning all six of their matches to amass 122 VP. That
left them 10 VP clear of Gromova’s Russia/Poland
alliance, with the French squad Levy tied with a
Polish/French outfit, Harazimovicz for third
place. With Popova and Brigada
in fifth and sixth positions it was mainly the European players who
dominated the second days play. The first 27 teams qualified from
Group A along with the 5 from Group B who took their second chance.
They included the powerful Armstrong and
Gitelman teams, but not Lavazza,
who fell 5 VP short. |
